More than 200 people in restaurant uniforms sped through the streets of Argentina's capital in the annual waiters' race.

The servers, carrying loaded trays and trying not to spill, raced to crowd cheers and applause along a 1.6 kilometre route, which took them past the Casa Rosada, the Government house, on one of the city's main thoroughfares.

The first to cross the line this year came in at just over 17 minutes.

Saturday's race was sponsored by the Hotel and Hospitality Workers Union. It was the 10th race and saw competitors from across Argentina. It was the third year that the event had separate women's and veterans' categories.
