Having topped free testing yesterday, Jose Maria Lopez remained quickest in the first official practice session around his home Termas de Rio Hondo circuit in Argentina.

Leading a Citroen 1-2 over team-mate Sebastien Loeb, Lopez was a comfortable two tenths up on his nearest rivals, with Mehdi Bennani completing the top three in his privateer Proteam Honda Civic.

Having suggested as much in testing, Honda appear more comparable with the so-far dominant Citroens this weekend, with Yvan Muller being chased by Gabriele Tarquini, Norbert Michelisz – quickly up to speed after airport dramas forced him to miss testing – and Tiago Monteiro. The top seven was covered by less than a second, closest it has been this year.

Tom Chilton headed up the Chevrolet challenge in eighth place, ahead of Cruze counterpart Hugo Valente, while Rob Huff maintained LADA's top ten presence in a solid tenth place.
