After a defeat against conservative Mauricio Macri in the presidential elections, Justicialist Party and Front for Vicory leader Daniel Scioli called for unity among the nation’s Peronist and leftist movements during an interview released in Pagina 12's Sunday edition.
“We should all make an effort to realize the unity of all the sectors that conform to Peronism, as well as all the spaces that participated in the Front for Victory, Peronists and others,” said the Governor of the Buenos Aires province.
Scioli warned against potential divisions the Front for Victory coalition could experience as a result of the defeat, encouraging his political partners to push for an even greater alliance between the various groups and social movements that supported his candidacy.
“Now more than ever, not only do we have to think about how to create a modern party... but also about how to complement ourselves with other political spaces that have been very important in this campaign,” he said, calling for an “axis on Peronism but with a large mind.”

Scioli refused to comment on the dissonant voices of his electoral campaign, who according to various political analysts and Peronist leaders could have contributed to his defeat. “Now I want to contribute to harmony, to unity,” he repeated.
In light of the new government’s announcement that it will open up the economy by cutting capital controls and trade restrictions, Scioli affirmed that his party will continue to defend “the workers” as prices of various consumer goods are expected to rise.
While Scioli’s term as Governor of Buenos Aires will soon come to an end, he did not confirm whether he would run for the presidency of the Justicialist Party in 2016.
Last Sunday, Macri won a close election campaign with approximately 51 percent of the vote, in the first presidential run off in the nation’s history.
