Video shows Diego Maradona attacking fans after ‘Match for Peace’ in Colombia

Retired Argentine soccer player Diego Maradona is the star of a video going viral on social networks that shows him taking a swipe at a man who tried to photograph him after the "Match for Peace" played earlier this weekend in Colombia's capital.

The 54-year-old Maradona tried to make his way around Bogota's Techo stadium following Friday night's match, in which he scored on a penalty kick, and he is seen on the video lashing out at a man who attempted to take his picture as fans mobbed him.

Maradona kicks a security guard and shoves fans who got too close to him.

Maradona's behavior sparked criticism on social networks because he was in Colombia to promote peace.

Last October, he came under fire for a 30-second video clip, which was leaked to Argentina’s press and posted online, that appeared to show him striking his ex-girlfriend Rocio Oliva, who secretly filmed the attack on her cellphone.

That video showed a visibly intoxicated Maradona slurring his speech and questioning Oliva over her telephone – before physically confronting her.

“Stop! Stop! Stop hitting me Diego,” Oliva is heard pleading.

Maradona later defended himself, claiming that he was only slapping the cellphone from her hands, and not hitting her.

“Yes, I slapped the phone, but I swear that I have never lifted my hand against a woman,” he said in Spanish. “The episode started and ended right there. I admit slapping the phone, but there was nothing else. The situation did not go any further.”

The 53-year-old also seemed to inadvertently confirm that there are other videos like this one in existence.

“Which one?” Maradona reportedly answered to Calabro when asked about the video.
