The United States national Under-21 women's field hockey team advanced into the quarterfinal round of the ERGO Hockey Junior World Cup in Mnchengladbach, Germany after beating Ghana, 6-0, in the final game of pool play on Tuesday.
Stanford's Kelsey Harbin plays for the Americans, who play Argentina on Thursday.
Six different players scored for the U.S., which led 3-0 at halftime.
"We are very satisfied with our performance so far, American team captain Laura Gebhart said. "Every game we try to improve, and we saw it today. We try to improve more and more throughout the tournament."
Gebhart was one of the scorers for the U.S. and was joined by Emily Wold, Maria Elena Bolles, Aileen Johnson, Georgia Holland and Nikki Parsley.
"All the top teams have diferent systems of play, so we have to adjust to each team individually," Gebhart said. "Every time is a different setup for us as well. However, we are going for gold. The tournament is amazing, it's a great experience."
Canada, with Stanford's Maddie Secco among the players, dropped a 6-3 decision to Russia and will play Korea in the consolation tournament.
Men's golf
Stanford golfer Cameron Wilson is part of a three-way tie for first place after one round of the Western Amateur Championship in Roland, AR on Tuesday.
Wilson, Sam Smith and Seth Reeves each shot a 7-under 65 at the Alotian Club golf course.
A total of 73 golfers shot par or better, including Cardinal's Andrew Yun and Patrick Rodgers, who are tied for sixth at 5-under 67.
