Union sign Maidana as Designated Player

Chester, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Philadelphia Union signed midfielder Cristian Maidana from Argentinos Juniors and he will occupy an International and Designated Player roster spot.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed and the Argentina native will join the
team pending the receipt of his U.S. P-1 Visa and International Transfer
Certificate.

The 26-year-old scored three goals in 25 appearances with Mexican side Atlante
from 2012-13, while he also enjoyed spells with Spartak Moscow in Russia,
Spanish outfit Recreativo and Rangers de Talca in Chile.

"I was able to see Cristian play several times and I came away extremely
impressed with his technical skills, creativity and one vs. one ability," said
team manager John Hackworth. "After having met him personally, I felt even
more confident that he was the type of person and player who can benefit our
club on and off the field. We are excited that Cristian is a member of the
Union."
