Manchester United to edge out PSG in the chase for Di Maria
Manchester United are reportedly preparing to bid €69 million for Argentina star Angel di Maria tonight.
Following the arrivals of James Rodriguez from AS Monaco and Toni Kroos from Bayern Munich, Di Maria has been tipped to leave UEFA Champions League winners Real Madrird this summer, and PSG and Manchester United are chasing to secure the service of the 26-year-old playmaker.
It was understood that the Ligue 1 champions have won the race to lure Di Maria, however reports from Spanish newspaper Sport suggest that Old Trafford outfit haven’t given up hope to sign the playmaker and are set to match French club’s €69m bid tonight.
According to reports, Real Madrid would prefer to sell the 26-year-old Argentinean to 20-time champions as they are able to pay the entire signing fee now.
Whereas PSG wants to sign Di Maria on an initial 1-year loan deal before completing the permanent transfer next year, as they cannot make big signings this transfer window because of Financial Fair Play rules.
Red Devils step up efforts to sign Vermaelen
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Thomas Vermaelen is set to leave Arsenal this summer and according to reports from Guardian, Manchester United are stepping up their efforts to sign the Belgium international.
Barcelona are also keen to sign the 28-year-old defender and reports claims that Arsenal could prefer to sell to Barcelona rather than to a direct rival.
Louis van Gaal wants to sign two central defenders this summer to fill in the gap left by the departure of Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand and he is also an admirer of the Belgian defender.
