Sunderland part of Premier League trio targeting Lazio midfielder

HITC Sport understands a number of Premier League clubs are chasing Lazio midfielder Cristian Ledesma on a free transfer.

HITC Sport understands from sources close to the matter that Lazio midfielder Cristian Ledesma could be set for a move to England, with a number of Premier League clubs pursuing his signature.

Ledesma is out of contract at the Stadio Olimpico this summer and he seems set to leave the club after nine years in the Italian capital.

The 32-year-old boasts a wealth of experience, having started his career in Argentina with Boca Juniors before moving to Italy with Lecce and then Lazio in 2006.

Despite being born in Argentina, Ledesma pledged his international allegiance to Italy - winning his one and only cap in 2010.

Arsenal were linked with a move for Ledesma last January as they searched for a defensive midfielder, but now Watford, West Bromwich Albion and Sunderland are all weighing up moves to bring Ledesma to England.

Premier League new boys Watford believe Ledesma would bring valuable experience and know-how to their side as they prepare for life back in the top-flight.

West Brom and Sunderland are also both in the market for defensive midfielders and Ledesma is thought to figure prominently on their respective wanted lists.

Would Ledesma be a success in the Premier League?
