Socceroos down to 59th in FIFA rankings ahead of World Cup draw

Australia will be the lowest-ranked nation at next year's World Cup in Brazil after FIFA announced its rankings before next week's draw, putting Australia at number 59.

Asian rival Iran is the highest ranked team in the continent, rising four places to 45, while Japan has fallen four rungs to 48. South Korea is placed at 54.

The world's top four remains unchanged with Spain still the world's top nation despite a shock 1-0 loss to South Africa.

Germany, Argentina and Colombia complete the top four.

Portugal rose nine places to reach number five in the world, but Belgium dropped out of the top 10, which features Uruguay, Italy, Switzerland, Netherlands and Brazil.

USA is the highest ranked North American side at 14th, while the Ivory Coast is Africa's top side at 17th.
