The 36-year-old will hang up his boots after the completion of next season’s Copa Libertadores.

Milito said: “I am happy to say I will play another six months at the club, I will stay to play the Libertadores.”

The Racing Club forward had been due to retire at the end of the Argentinian season but, after securing a spot in South America’s premier competition, the 36-year-old has decided to have one last season.

He added: “We are in a moment to enjoy, a historic moment and one in a positive way. I think I can continue to contribute to this great group we have formed and enjoy another Libertadores.”

The Racing Club striker has struggled with injuries in recent months, but has confirmed his career is coming to an end.

He continued: “In June 2016 I’m going to retire, no matter what,” he added. “This is my last six months as a professional player.”
