The All Blacks are counting on Tom Taylor's experience and mental strength to provide the back up they need in the absence of Aaron Cruden for the next two weeks.
The Canterbury utility takes the place of Cruden in the touring squad for tests against Argentina and South Africa.
Assistant coach Ian Foster says Taylor is a very mature for a young player.
"We just really trust his mental attitude, his toughness and his ability to not get fazed under pressure so as a person to call in this situation he's outstanding."
Taylor is due to arrive in Buenos Aires this afternoon.
