Roger Federer beaten by Federico Delbonis in Hamburg – Tennis World

Tennis: 17-time Grand Slam champion and former world no.1 Roger Federer was beaten by Federico Delbonis of Argentina in the semifinal of German Open ATP 500 Tennis Championship in Hamburg. The 4-time Hamburg champion was beaten in straight sets by the qualifier.

22-year-old from Argentina, who is ranked 114 in the world, had a career win/loss record of 13/18 before the tournament started and had won only won 4 matches on the tour before this tournament.

Federer broke his opponent first in the match but Delbonis broke back as the set into a tie-break. The tie-break went on serve and Federer once got a set point as well but Delbonis saved it and got a mini-break at 7-7. He got the point on 8-7 to win the first set.

In the second set, none of the player could break the serve and both of them held all of their serves as the set went to tie-break again. Delbonis won the tie-break 7-4 and earned the biggest win of his career.

He will face Fabio Fognini of Italy in the final.
