Manchester United midfielder Angel Di Maria could join Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the season, with Edinson Cavani heading in the other direction, reports the Daily Mail.

United signed Di Maria from Real Madrid for a British record fee of £59.7 million last summer, but despite making a bright start to his Old Trafford career, he has largely failed to live up to expectations.

The Argentina international has scored three goals and registered nine assists in the league so far this season.

PSG were interested in signing him when he left the Spanish capital, but they were unable to match United’s bid and still comply with Financial Fair Play regulations.

The Daily Mail report that the Ligue 1 champions could now bring the 27-year-old to the Parc des Prince this summer, as his value has dropped closer to £30 million.

And Di Maria’s potential departure could pave the way for Cavani to move to United. The Uruguay international was regarded as one of Europe’s most dangerous strikers during his time at Napoli, but he has struggled to reproduce that form in France.

He has often had to play out wide in order to accommodate Zlatan Ibrahimovic, even though he has scored eight league goals this season.

United are currently fourth in the table, and they have established a five-point cushion after beating Liverpool 2-1 at Anfield.

Di Maria has created 46 chances in the league this season, more than any other United player.
