The Argentina international has been heavily linked with a move to the Gunners this summer, as Arsene Wenger looks to bolster his forward line ahead of the new season.

However, speaking to Univision, Perez was adamant the Liga runners-up still hoped to retain Higuain, saying: "We don't want him to go."

Perez also claimed that Madrid have yet to receive a bid for the Argentine, but Goal understands that the north Londoners returned with an improved £23.1 million offer for the 25-year-old last Thursday.

Higuain was Madrid's second highest goalscorer in La Liga last season, behind only Cristiano Ronaldo, with 16 goals in 28 appearances for the club.
