Ralph Lauren Corp. to pay $882K to feds for bribing Argentinian customs official

 

The Ralph Lauren Corp. will pay the feds an $882,000 penalty for violating the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act by bribing customs officials in Argentina.

The Brooklyn U.S. attorney's office said officials of the famed clothing company greased government palms in the South American country from 2004 to 2009 so its high-end merchandise could clear customs without delay and often avoided inspections altogether.

Under the non-prosecution agreement, the company pledges to “address any deficiencies in its internal controls, compliance code, policies, and procedures” relating to anti-corruption laws, court papers state.
