West Bridgford's Helen Richardson-Walsh and Newark's Shona McCallin both featured in the Great Britain women's hockey team's double victory at the weekend.

GB made it three wins from three at the World League Semi-Final in Valencia after seeing off Argentina on Saturday and then Canada yesterday.

Goals from Hannah Macleod and Sophie Bray saw Great Britain tame Las Leonas 2-0 to record a first win over Argentina since 1996.

Alex Danson missed a penalty stroke in the first half but that did not prove to be costly in the end.

Of the Argentina win, head coach Danny Kerry said: "Our organised defence was great as Argentina threw numbers forward and we looked menacing on the counter-attack.

"I'm proud of how this group has gone about two exceptionally tough pool games."

Goalkeeper Maddie Hinch added: "We've been in good form coming into the tournament. They have the best forwards around so we knew we had to negate that."

Things got better for the squad a day later in Spain when Danson, Georgie Twigg and Bray (2) scored to maintain their 100 per cent record thanks to a 4-2 success over Canada.

Kerry added: "Some of our play was very good. If we had kept greater composure in the attacking circle we could have scored a higher number of goals.

"I felt we controlled the game which given the nature of tournament hockey, was a very good thing to see."

Great Britain, who also have ex-Beeston skipper Hollie Webb in their side, play next against China tomorrow.
