New Britain’s Destiny Mateo takes third place in Judo competition in Argentina

New Britain's Destiny Mateo, who trains at the New Britain Judo and Dynamic Arts Club, was picked to represent Team USA and compete at the Pan American Judo Championship and South American Championship in Argentina. After raising enough funds with help from area residents, she attended the event, which was worth the effort.

The tournament took place on last month and there were over 400 athletes from over a dozen countries, making up a huge international judo tournament known for its fierce competition, and divisions that are stacked with the top competitors chosen from each country.

Destiny had eight people in her division and took third place. She lost her first match then won the rest, securing the bronze medal.

Destiny was not only representing the USA but New Britain as well, and did everyone who helped her proud.
