SAN JUAN, Argentina (AP) — Nani Roma of Spain won Tuesday's third stage of the Dakar Rally, which also pulled him into the overall lead in the car division.
Roma, driving a Mini, finished 1:07 ahead of Krzysztof Holowczyc of Poland and 3:19 in front of Leeroy Poulter of South Africa. Roma leads the overall car standings by 9:06 over Orlando Terranova of Argentina and is 10 minutes ahead of Nasser Al-Attiyah of Qatar.
Eleven-time champion Stephane Peterhansel slipped to fifth in the overall standings, 24:08 behind the leader.
In bikes, Joan Barreda Bort of Spain took the overall lead with a victory in the third stage. Barreda Bort was 4:41 head of Cyril Despres of France and 6:56 in front of Marc Coma of Spain.
Barreda Bort leads Despres by 13:04 in the overall.
