MotoGP May Race Twice In South America In 2014

Dorna boss Carmelo Ezpeleta insisted this week MotoGP will race in Argentina in 2014 and may also add a round in Brazil next year, creating a double-dip in South America.

The Argentine race, at the remote new Autodromo Rio de Hondo circuit, was scheduled for this season but postponed due to political strife between the governments of Spain and Argentina due to the Argentine government nationalizing Repsol YPF, the country's subsidiary of the Spanish oil giant that has deep, long sponsorship ties in MotoGP.

Ezpeleta said MotoGP also could race at a new circuit in Rio. It's uncertain whether the schedule will grow to 19 races or if other races will be dropped in 2014.

MotoGP last raced in Argentina in 1999 at Buenos Aires, while the series last raced in Brazil in 2004.
