Mobile internet in Brazil 4th fastest in South America

At 1.12 Mbps, Brazil is in fourth place among countries in South America in terms of mobile internet speed, according to a study by Akamai concerning data from the second quarter of 2012. Brazil came behind Argentina (1.6 Mbps), Chile (1.3 Mbps) and Colombia (1.17 Mbps). Brazil was ahead of Paraguay, Venezuela and Bolivia. The peak of speed for mobile connections in Brazil, according to the study, reached 8 Mbps in the period. The global average mobile internet speed was 2 Mbps. The highest average mobile connection speed of 7.7 Mbps was reached in Russia. In terms of connection peak, the UK achieved the highest speed, at 44 Mbps. In terms of fixed internet connections, Brazil was below the average of other Latin American countries. The average speed was 2.1 Mbps, below Chile (3 Mbps), Mexico (2.7 Mbps) and Colombia (2.5 Mbps). Meanwhile, the speed was higher than Argentina (2 Mbps), Peru (1.8 Mbps) and Venezuela (1 Mbps). Meanwhile, the study identified that in Brazil, 12 percent of connections had a speed higher than 4 Mbps.
