Leonardo Mayer got off to a perfect start by winning the first two sets against Joao Souza in Argentina's Davis Cup first round clash against Brazil, but the Corrientes native started to lose steam as his opponent forced his way back into recognition.
In the fourth point of the match, which Argentina must win to avoid defeat, Mayer currently leads 2-1 in sets but with Souza a break up in the fourth.
The series is being played in a clay-court stadium specially built for this event in Tecnópolis, Villa Martelli.
Argentina must win to keep series against Brazil alive after losing the doubles match yesterday.
If the Argentine wins, Federico Delbonis will aim for victory in the fifth point to define if Argentina will play Serbia in quarterfinals or will face its second playoff in a row in order to avoid relegation.
“If the series stay alive, Delbonis will play the fifth point. I consider that he is physically better than Berlocq, who played two tough matches in two days,” captain Daniel Orsanic said at the press conference after the doubles loss.
