Multiple RX Lites Cup event winner Thomas Bryntesson will graduate to the Supercar category at the final round of the World Rallycross Championship at Rosario in Argentina.

The Norwegian will drive a Marklund Motorsport Volkswagen Polo, and tested for the team last week at Holjes.

Bryntesson missed the opening round of the RX Lites Cup in Portugal but finished on the podium on his debut at Lydden Hill and followed with four consecutive victories.

He finished third in the championship table after suffering last round suspension problems.

"We tested in Sweden at Holjes and my first impression of a Supercar was that they are great to drive and so fast," said the 19-year-old, who will partner Finn Toomas Heikkinen in the Swedish squad.

"To start with I need to learn and to get some good experience in a Supercar, then we will see how the speed is."

Bryntesson's Marklund chance was proposed by former World Rally Championship star PG Andersson, who drove for the team in 10 events in 2015.

"PG encouraged us to give a young driver a chance, which is something Jan [Marklund, team owner] was very keen on too," said Marklund team manager Michael Schneider.

"PG suggested Thomas and from what we have seen of him in RX Lites this season, and at this first Supercar test, he is a very competent driver.

"At the test he found the feeling and got to grips with the Volkswagen Polo RX Supercar very quickly."

Bryntesson is yet to confirm his plans for 2016 but expects to continue in the RX Lites category if he is unable to move into Supercar full time.
