Manchester rivals joined by Arsenal in race for Argentina star

Both Manchester clubs have been joined by Arsenal in the race to sign Benfica star Nicolas Gaitan, according to reports in the Daily Mirror.

The Premier League giants are understood to be keeping a close eye on the midfielder, with both Manchester titans thought to have had scouts in attendance during midweek’s Champions League tie.

The Argentine ace can operate both centrally and in wide positions, and is also said to be interesting Spanish side Atletico Madrid.

The 27-year old moved to Europe five years ago when the Portuguese juggernauts plucked him from Boca Juniors as a replacement for Angel Di Maria.

He has received 11 caps at international level, scoring twice.

Thought to be valued at around £24m, the attacking midfielder has been in fine form during Champions League fixtures this term – netting three times in four games.

However, he was sent off for two yellow cards during the midweek win over Galatasaray, where Premier League scouts were believed to be casting an eye over him.
