Lucas Biglia misses playing European football – Enzo Montepaone

Lucas Biglia could be forced to leave Stadio Olimpico in the summer if Lazio fail to qualify for Europe next season, that's according to the midfielder's agent Enzo Montepaone, who revealed his client misses the challenge of playing in two competitions each week.

The Argentina international is enjoying his time in Italy and has played an instrumental role in Stefano Pioli's side this term, helping the club climb to third place in the Serie 'A' table - a position that would secure entry into the Champions League.

If Lazio are going to keep hold of Biglia then they'll need to finish in the qualification places, or else the 29-year-old is likely to look for a move elsewhere, particularly after attracting alleged interest from Manchester United.

The Daily Mirror reported last month that Louis van Gaal is considering a bid to bring Biglia to Old Trafford at the end of the season, despite the fact his compatriot Angel di Maria has endured a very difficult debut campaign at the Theatre of Dreams.

Signed from Real Madrid for a British transfer record fee in August, the winger has struggled to settle in England's top-flight, and as a result has produced a number of underwhelming performances.

However, that's done little to deter the Red Devils from keeping tabs on Di Maria's national teammate Biglia, as he continues to impress in a deep-lying playmaker role in the Eternal City.

Asked about the chances of the former Anderlecht star staying put beyond the 2014/15 campaign, Montepaone explained that Biglia's current focus is firmly on helping Lazio finish as high up the league as possible, but refused to completely rule out the possibility of a future transfer.

"Right now he is thinking only of Lazio, a club which is doing really well," the representative was quoted in an exclusive interview with Tuttomercatoweb. "But as we know in football, situations can change from minute to minute.

"Only God knows what will happen tomorrow," - Enzo Montepaone on Lucas Biglia

"He told me that he misses playing two competitions [the league and Europe] each week. I think for Lazio another league has begun: Juventus are unreachable, but for the Champions League anything is possible.

"Lucas is keen and is leaving his heart on the pitch to reach that goal. Only God knows what will happen tomorrow."

With a reported valuation of €25 million it will take a significant sum of money to convince Lazio to cash-in on the South American schemer, whose attributes are probably better suited to the rigours of Premier League football, so Manchester United fans needn't worry about Biglia failing in the same way that Di Maria has this season.

Specialising in breaking up opposition attacks, the Argentine seems to have found the perfect balance between industry and adventure, having also created 23 goalscoring chances for Lazio this season - the second-most of any player in Pioli's team.
