Julio Martinez likely Argentina’s next defence minister

Argentina's presidential election and forthcoming change of administration mean a new minister of defence is to be appointed, and Julio Martinez, a national deputy for La Rioja province, has been announced as the candidate.

Mauricio Macri, Argentina's new president, elected on 22 November, is said to favour Martinez, who integrated and led the National Defence Commission of the Chamber of Deputies, and is known for harsh criticism of the outgoing government.

Patricia Bullrich, a former minister of employment and social security, and the current president of the Criminal Law Committee of the Chamber of Deputies, was designated for the minister of security position.
