Gino Peruzzi: Expected to travel to Sunderland on Thursday

Argentine champions Velez Sarsfield claim defender Gino Peruzzi will to travel to Sunderland on Thursday to complete his move to Wearside.

Sunderland and Velez Sarsfield had agreed a fee for 21-year-old Argentina international Gino Peruzzi earlier this week, only for the player to reject Sunderland's contract offer.

Peruzzi told reporters: "Together with my family we decided that it (Sunderland's offer) wasn't what we expected, and that's why we said no.

"It's not that I don't want to go to Sunderland - it's a team in the Premier League, one of the most important leagues in Europe. I am willing to listen to a new proposal."

And it appears he has now agreed terms with Sunderland, with a statement on Velez Sarsfield's website saying: "Velez Sarsfield and Sunderland have reached an agreement on the transfer of Gino Peruzzi.

"On Thursday two club officials will travel to England with the player to complete the deal."

Gino Peruzzi made his professional debut at Velez Sarsfield in 2010, and has made 26 appearances for the side.

Peruzzi, who is a right back but can also operate on the wing, has been capped four times by Argentina.
