FIFA World Rankings: Argentina Stay Stop; England Fall Behind Wales

FIFA have released the latest September update to the official world rankings, with a Lionel Messi inspired Argentina still the best international side on the planet.

Belgium have kept hold of second place, a spot the Red Devils' Golden Generation reclaimed earlier this summer, while world champions Germany remain third.

The rest of the rest of the top seven (Colombia, Brazil, Portugal, Romania) are all non-movers. Chile have risen two places to 8th, their highest ranking for nine years. England are the only other change in the top 10, falling two places from 8th to 10th.

Roy Hodgson's Three Lions have now fallen behind Wales for the first time, with the Welsh holding on to 9th place.

The Welsh have been steadily climbing ever since Chris Coleman took over management of the team in 2012 and have never been higher since the rankings were introduced more than 20 years ago. As recently as 2011, they were a lowly 117th.

After dropping spectacularly in August, the Netherlands have halted their slide and remain 12th. Uruguay have also fallen significantly in recent month, but have held firm in 18th place, while Spain are unmoved in 11th.

France continue to occupy a lowly position and have fallen to 24th after being leapfrogged by Denmark (22nd) and Iceland (23rd). Algeria are the top ranked African team in 19th place, while 40th place Iran are the currently the world's best Asian team.

Mexico and the United States, often firmly placed in the top 10 throughout the 2000s, are 26th and 28th, respectively. The most improved team in the world are FIji, who have risen an impressive 17 places from 198th to 171st.
