Fernandez pointed to the initiative as an example of the gains made by Argentinians under her administration, which has largely focused on improving living conditions and public services.

“We need citizens who know that they must defend their victories,” she said.

The president also called on her supporters to defend not only victories at home, but also the achievements made by Argentina in promoting Latin American integration.

“In South America we have seen attempts to return to the neoliberal policies that have failed us in the past,” she said.

If elected as president, Scioli has vowed to mostly continue Fernandez's most popular policies, including opposing neoliberalism.

Argentina will hold general elections Oct. 25., in which Fernandez cannot run and she hopes to hand the reins of the FPV to Scioli.
