Hundreds of feminist activists gathered at Plaza de Mayo in Buenos Aires on Saturday to call for the full legalization of abortion. The protesters, gathered under the title of 'March of the prostitutes,' reenacted female casualties from clandestine abortions to raise awareness about sexual violence and to advocate for access to safe and legal abortions. Currently, abortion is permitted in Argentina only when the life or the health of the mother is in danger and in case of rape. Due to the restrictions, an estimated 500,000 illegal abortions are carried out annually, amounting to almost 40 percent of total pregnancies throughout the country.
