Brazil’s Chevrolet Brasil Global Tour victory over Honduras on Wednesday saw Dunga’s side record the Selecao’s best run of victories since 1969.
Roberto Firmino scored the only goal of the game as Dunga’s side made it 10 wins on the bounce, surpassing the nine won under Joao Saldanha in the run-up to World Cup 1970.
He is two wins away from the all-time record, however, as 1962 World Cup-winning coach Aymore Moreira won 12 on the bounce between 1961-62.
Dunga is now targeting a clean sweep of Copa America Group B, knowing victories over Peru, Colombia and Venezuela would see him set a new record of 13 straight wins.
He arrived following the disappointment of last year’s World Cup semi-final exit at the hands of Germany, and kicked off his second spell in charge of his country with 1-0 victories over Colombia and Ecuador.
His side picked up momentum with a Superclasico de las Americas victory over Argentina and a 4-0 hammering of Japan before going on to win his next six.
In the 10 games played under his stewardship, Brazil have scored 23 goals, with captain Neymar grabbing eight, and conceded just two as his new-look back-four of Danilo, Miranda, David Luiz and Filipe Luis have proved almost unbeatable.
Moreira’s side managed 32 goals, and conceded eight, in their run of 12 victories that ended in Vina del Mar, Chile, with a goalless draw against Czechoslovakia.
