Don’t cry for me Argie cleaner! Carlos Tevez to do community service

FOOTIE ace Carlos Tevez was yesterday sentenced to do 250 hours of community
service for driving while disqualified and without insurance.

The Man City and Argentina star, 29, is set to sport a hi-vis bib to carry out
unpaid jobs such as cleaning.

Typical tasks include cleaning churchyards and clearing allotments.

Argentine international Tevez was stopped following an anonymous tip-off after
leaving Mottram Hall Golf Club, Cheshire, on March 7.

Tevez, of Alderley Edge, told cops: “I only live down the road. Two minutes.”

Speaking through an interpreter to Macclesfield magistrates, the
£200,000-a-week striker admitted the charges and was also given a six-month
ban and was fined £1,145.

Chair of the bench Elizabeth Depares said: “You must realise you are a role
model. Nobody is above the law.”

Tevez was hit with a six-month ban in January after failing to provide driver
information after his Hummer vehicle was clocked speeding twice last year.

The court heard yesterday that his Argentinian driving licence is not valid in
the UK and he has applied for a provisional one here.

He must start his unpaid work within seven days and complete it within 12
months. A Probation Service spokesman said: “He won’t be treated differently
to other offenders.”

Tevez will have a risk assessment before his tasks are decided. He faces
swapping his familiar No 32 shirt for an orange Community Payback jacket.

He joins a list of badboy players who have had to don the infamous hi-vis bib
including Eric Cantona, and Joey Barton.

After the case, Tevez was driven to City’s training complex. He has a year to
run on his contract and has interested foreign clubs. But he would have to
apply for a special court amendment if he wanted to quit the UK before
completing his tasks.
