Dakar Rally spectators injured in car accident in Argentina

Four spectators at the Dakar Rally have been injured after a auto ploughed into the crowd before race even started.

Organisers immediately neutralised the stage to allow emergency services to attend the scene of the incident, with six adults and five children rescued by medical teams.

One of the two severely wounded was evacuated to a hospital in Pilar while the second was evacuated by a local ambulance to the same hospital.

A statement from organizers says the injured spectators would be taken to local hospitals.

Guo's vehicle veered off the course at the 6.6-kilometer mark of the 11-kilometer prologue on a stretch of straight country road near Arrecifes.

Up to 60,000 people are thought to have been lining the route of the prologue. This means that the No. 56 Suzuki that we're all rooting for will begin the first stage of the Dakar that heads from Rosario to Villa Carlos Paz, 127th.

Loeb is the most successful rally driver in history winning nine world titles in a row and alongside him his brilliant co-pilot Daniel Elena.

Dutchman Bernhard ten Brinke, driving a Toyota, claimed victory in the prologue, taking 6min 08sec to cover the 11km special, beating Carlos Sainz (Peugeot) and Xavier Pons (Ford Ranger).

"It was important to clear the prologue and avoid any mistakes on the first day", said Loeb.

The current race was to determine Sunday's running order.
