The Black Sticks women have fallen just short in their deciding test against Argentina, after producing some of their best hockey of the week.
Argentina won 1-0 in Rosario via a first-half goal from Delfina Merino.
The result gave the home side the five-match series 2-1, with two draws.
It was a frustrating outcome for the New Zealanders, who impressed during the second-half against the world's second-ranked team.
Coach Mark Hager says the match was similar to the 3-3 draw in the fourth Test.
"We had a messy first half and Argentina put us under pressure," he says.
"But in the second half, we were much more controlled and we had many chances to score and win the game."
Match skipper Katie Glynn had the Black Sticks' best chance in the opening half from a pass by Krystal Forgesson, but her shot struck the crossbar.
In the second spell, New Zealand had three penalty corners, mistrapping one and having the others cleared by the opposition keeper.
Despite the defeat, Hager was pleased about how the tour had gone overall for New Zealand, the world No.3.
"We needed to score goals from the chances that we created," he says.
"But a tour like this is fantastic development for the younger players in the team."
The Black Sticks and Argentina will square off again in April, with New Zealand as hosts.
They will be joined by the United States and South Korea in a Four Nations tournament, with matches in Whangarei, Hamilton and Tauranga.
