Argentina's Juan Monaco has reached the finals of the ATP Malaysian Open in Kuala Lampur after beating Japan's Kei Nishikori on Saturday in the semi finals.
Monaco beat the Japanese star 6-2, 2-6, 7-6(4) over in a nearly three hour marathon. He will be competing in his fifth final of the year.
Monaco will be aiming to win his career's seventh title.
"Nishikori played very well," commented Monaco. "He came back in the second set, playing better than me. The final set was up and down, he had one match point, then I fought back and I am very happy the way I finished the match. I think the crowd enjoyed it."
"He just played well and I don’t think I played badly," Nishikori commented after the loss. "He served great and hit the ball well. I stopped hitting and playing inside the baseline."
