Arsenal target January move for 18-goal Argentina striker

Arsenal are looking to sign Boca Junior attacker Jonathan Calleri when the transfer window reopens in January, according to reports from the Metro.

The Gunners were heavily linked with a move for a centre-forward during the summer, but although the likes of Karim Benzema and Edinson Cavani were both rumoured to be targets, the London club were unable to land a deal.

This has seen Arsene Wenger go into the season with only Olivier Giroud as their out-and-out striker, but the French boss has also been deploying Theo Walcott in a more central role.

But with another attacker in Danny Welbeck sidelined for at least three months after an operation, Arsenal are interested in bringing Calleri to the Emirates this winter.

However, the Gunners will need to fend off interest from Serie A duo Napoli and Palermo, with both keen on the 21-year-old’s services.

Calleri made 48 appearances in all competitions, scoring 18 goals and supplying nine assists.
