Argentine President Cristina Fernandez To Undergo Brain Surgery On Tuesday

Argentina President Cristina Fernandez will undergo a surgery on Tuesday for removal of accumulation of blood in her skull, media reports citing medical sources said Monday.

The Favaloro Foundation Clinic in Buenos Aires was quoted as saying in a statement that doctors decided to go ahead with the surgery after Fernandez felt a weakness and numbness in her upper left arm Sunday evening.

Incidentally, Fernandez was ordered by her doctors on Saturday to rest for a month after they found her with subural hematoma , the accumulation of blood under a membrane of the brain.

The 60-year-old Argentine president had sustained a head injury over a month back. The hematoma was identified in a routine health check-up carried out on Saturday.

Fernandez' thyroid glands were removed last year after she was diagnosed with cancer.

In wake of the latest developments, vice-president Amado Boudou has cut short a visit to France to return to Argentina and take over presidential duties.

The surgery is expected to keep away President Fernandez from campaigning in the congressional elections due to be held on October 27.
