Argentine couple wins salon tango competition

— Argentine couples have swept top honors in the "salon tango" finals at the world's top tango dancing competition.

First-place winners Maximiliano Cristiani and Jesica Arfenoni embraced and glided Monday to woo a jury as the crowd cheered them on in Buenos Aires' Luna Park stadium.

They received $7,000 prize in cash and tickets to Paris, where they're expected to perform. Second and third place also went to hometown couples.

Salon tango competition rules require couples to keep physical contact while moving constantly in a counter-clockwise direction.

Acrobatic swoops, swirls and passionate clutches are encouraged, but competitors can't lift their legs above their knees.

More than 500 couples from 37 countries have been competing in the two-week tango festival. It ends Tuesday night with the "stage tango" finals.
