One technician died and three others were injured in an accident at an oil field in the southern Argentine province of Chubut, the operating company said.
The incident occurred at the El Tordillo field, which is located near the city of Comodoro Rivadavia (1,080 miles south of Buenos Aires) and operated by Tecpetrol, a unit of the Argentine group Techint.
The accident occurred during maintenance work, Tecpetrol, the concession holder, said in a statement, while local media reported that an explosion occurred while workers were welding a pipe.
A man identified as Cristian Gutierrez, an employee of contracting firm Otero Justo e Hijos, was killed in the accident, Tecpetrol said.
Three other workers with that same contracting firm were injured and hospitalized but are now "out of danger," the company added.
The causes of the accident are under investigation, according to Tecpetrol. EFE
